Bookkeeping Services in Dieppe, New Brunswick

QuickBooks Explained

Dieppe has been growing faster than almost anywhere in New Brunswick, and the paperwork has grown right along with it. If you run a business off Dieppe Boulevard, near Champlain Place, in the industrial park, or out of a home office in one of the new subdivisions, you already know the problem. The work that pays comes first, and the books wait until they can’t wait any longer.

Accounting Moncton is 11 minutes away. We’re a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor practice handling bookkeeping, payroll, HST filing and business registration for small businesses across Greater Moncton, and Dieppe is our closest neighbour.

What Dieppe businesses are actually dealing with

Dieppe grew 10.8% between the last two censuses, to just over 28,000 people, and the City now estimates its population at close to 34,500. That kind of growth changes what a bookkeeper needs to watch for.

You crossed the HST threshold and didn’t notice. This is the single most common thing we fix. The CRA small supplier limit is $30,000 in taxable revenue over four consecutive calendar quarters. In a market growing this fast, plenty of Dieppe businesses sail past it mid-year without registering. Once you’re over, you have 29 days from your effective date of registration to register, and if you blew past $30,000 in a single quarter, that effective date is the day of the sale that took you over, meaning you owed HST on that sale. New Brunswick’s rate is 15%. Discovering this in April, retroactively, is an expensive way to learn it.

Retail and service businesses here run on volume, not margin. The commercial corridor along Dieppe Boulevard, the retail cluster around Champlain Place and Bass Pro, the professional offices at Léger’s Corner: these are high-transaction businesses. Hundreds of small sales, dozens of supplier invoices, card processing fees landing in batches. Reconciling that by hand at month-end is where evenings disappear. It’s also exactly what QuickBooks Online is built to automate, once it’s set up properly.

Airport-adjacent businesses have interprovincial complications. Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport is in Dieppe, and the industrial park around it is a distribution hub for Atlantic Canada and the northeastern US. If you’re shipping across provincial lines, you may be charging the wrong tax rate. Nova Scotia dropped its HST to 14% in April 2025, while New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland stayed at 15%. Plenty of invoicing templates never got updated.

You’re competing for staff, and payroll is the pressure point. The City reports an average resident age of 39.5, against 46.1 for New Brunswick as a whole. Younger workforce, more hiring, more payroll, and payroll remittance deadlines don’t move for anyone.

Starting a business in Dieppe

If you’re registering a new business here, everything runs through the Corporate Registry at Service New Brunswick. That covers both sole proprietorship name registrations and provincial incorporation. It isn’t handled by the City of Dieppe, and it isn’t federal unless you deliberately choose to incorporate federally.

The decision that matters most on day one is sole proprietorship versus incorporation. Sole proprietorship is faster and cheaper to set up, and your business income lands on your personal return. Incorporation costs more up front and adds a corporate return every year, but New Brunswick’s small business rate is 2.5% on active business income up to $500,000 against the general rate of 14%, and it separates your personal assets from the business. For a lot of growing Dieppe businesses, the crossover point arrives sooner than they expect.

We walk you through the choice, run the NUANS search, and handle the filing.

Worth knowing locally: Expansion Dieppe, the city’s economic development agency, manages the Dieppe Industrial Park and supports business attraction and growth. The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton covers Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview and has been running since 1891. Both are worth a conversation when you’re getting started.

Common questions from Dieppe business owners

Do I need a Dieppe-based bookkeeper?
No. Bookkeeping isn’t regulated by municipality, and with cloud accounting your bookkeeper’s postal code is close to irrelevant. What matters is that they know New Brunswick rules, including HST at 15%, provincial registration through Service New Brunswick and NB corporate rates, and that they’re reachable. We’re both.

When do I have to start charging HST?
Once your taxable revenue passes $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters. You then have 29 days from your effective date of registration to register with CRA. If you crossed $30,000 within a single quarter, your effective date is the day of the sale that took you over, so that sale is already taxable. If you crossed it gradually across four quarters, you stop being a small supplier at the end of the month following that quarter. Either way, it’s easier to track it than to unwind it. If you’re growing quickly, and in Dieppe many are, we’ll watch the number so it doesn’t surprise you.

I’m running a business out of my home in Dieppe. Is that different?
The bookkeeping is the same, but the deductions aren’t. Home office expenses, vehicle use, and the portion of utilities you can claim all need supporting records. Set that up correctly in year one and it takes minutes a month. Reconstruct it three years later and it’s painful.

Est-ce que vous offrez vos services en français?
Oui. Nous travaillons avec nos clients en français, en anglais, en espagnol et en ukrainien. Dieppe is close to two-thirds francophone, and you shouldn’t have to discuss your finances in your second language. Call and we’ll continue in whichever language you prefer.

Can you take over books someone else set up badly?
Yes, and that’s a large part of what we do. We’ll review the existing file, tell you honestly what shape it’s in, and either clean it up or rebuild it. You’ll know the scope before we start.
